trianae = José Jerónimo Triana Silva (May 22, 1828 in Bogotá – October 31, 1890 in Paris) was a Colombian botanist, explorer, and physician who cataloged over 60,000 specimens representing 8,000 species.

Propagation: division
Origin: Colombia
Parents: Cattleya trianae 'Michael 7A x Cattleya trianae 'Sangre De Toro Dark Lip'
Habitat:

epiphytic, widespread in all 3 Cordilleras of Colombia, at altitudes above 1000m, both in partial shade and high up in the canopy of trees in bright places.

Notes:

Cattleya trianae is also known as Flor de Mayo (May flower) in Colombia. The extremely large (>20cm) flowers emit a fine, pleasant, slightly sweet fragrance. Cattleya trianae is very diverse in coloration, ranging from pure white to white with red lip, light pink to dark pinkish violet. Cattleya trianae became the Colombian national flower in November 1936:
1. the lip is yellow, blue and red, like the Colombian flag.
2. the species was named after the 19th century Colombian botanist José Jerónimo Triana.

C. trianae with deep dark pink or red-purple flowers have also been known since the mid-late 19th century. Jean Jules Linden, who probably owned the largest collection of varieties of Cattleya trianae, published this dark form as Cattleya trianae var. Memori Lindenii at the beginning of the 20th century.
