Etymology:

woolwardiae = Florence Helen Woolward (1854-1936) was an English botanical illustrator and author, and was commissioned by Schomberg Kerr, 9th Marquess of Lothian to paint his extensive orchid collection, and published in parts between 1891 and 1896 as "The Genus Masdevallia".

Habitat:

Epiphytic on mossy trees in the cloud forest in the central cordilleras at altitudes of 1600 to 2800m.

Notes:

The flower size of Dracula woolwardiae is about 10 x 20cm, making it a very large-flowered Dracula, the flower stems grow horizontally or upright, with 3-4 successively opening terminal flowers.
