kegeljanii = in honor of Hermann Kegel, gardener at Bot. Gart. Halle (Saale): "He was replaced by Hermann Kegel, a native of Hettstedt, who had completed his gardener's apprenticeship at the Halle Botanical Garden. Through a plant collecting trip to Surinam (1844-1846) and his work in the training school for gardeners with van Houtte in Ghent, his name had become known in gardening circles. From Ghent, Kegel brought back 200 living plants, among them rare species, which he donated to the Botanical Garden. He himself owned several valuable herbarium collections."

Goeppertia kegeljanii is very decorative houseplant that can cope with less light. Nevertheless, the distance from the window should not exceed 1m. The leaves have an unusual network structure, which is very rarely found in the kingdom of plants.
