Etymology: | sharoniae = The species is named in honor of Sharon Christoph Davidson who, along with her husband Chris Davidson, has been a field companion and a great supporter of my work with the Araceae. Sharon and Chris are both excellent photographers, excellent collectors, and wonderful field companions. It is always fun to be in the field with them. I am honored to name this exquisite new species in their honor. (Tom Croat pers. comm.)

Notes: | Philodendron sharoniae was discovered in Ecuador by Thomas B. Croat & Genevieve Ferry on 9 Aug 2004. The species has inversely pear-shaped leaves that are more or less, depending on the site variation, strongly constricted at the middle lobe. |
