Habitat:

Cattleya maxima grows epiphytic, occasionally lithophytic at elevations from 10 to 1500 meters in seasonally very dry coastal forests

Notes:

C. maxima 'rosea' is a very colourful clone of this species. C. maxima is known for producing significantly more intense flower colours when the buds develop in cooler temperatures. C. maxima 'rosea' is naturally more strongly coloured, but only produces the full colour development when cultivated correctly (T/N difference). Whether Cattleya maxima 'rosea' corresponds to C. maxima var. marchettiana published in 1891 (see illustration) cannot be ruled out, but we do not know.
