Etymology:

rothschildianum = Nathaniel Mayer Rothschild, 1st Baron Rothschild, Baron de Rothschild (8 November 1840 – 31 March 1915) was a British banker and politician from the wealthy international Rothschild family.

Habitat:

terrestrial, sometimes lithophytic species occurring in northern Borneo on steep slopes and rock faces with peaty boulders and moss, often near seeps at elevations from 500 to 1800 meters.

Notes:

Probably the best known, multi-flowered lady's slipper, with a flower size up to over 30cm, and up to 6 flowers on the stem also one of the most impressive. Was lost for almost 100 years until it was rediscovered by Sheila COLLENETTE in Borneo in the 90s of the 20th century.
