Product information "C. Dominiana 'coerulea'"
Name: C. Dominiana 'Coerulea'
Propagation: seed
Parents: (C. intermedia 'coerulea' x Cattleya maxima 'coerulea')
Breeder: Veitch (Exeter)
RHS Registration: Veitch, 1859
Notes:

Cattleya Dominiana is one of the very first orchid hybrids. The breeder was John Dominy (pic below), the head gardener at Veitch's Exeter branch. The year of the first flowers was 1859, the same year the hybrid Cattleya Dominiana, a cross between Cattleya intermedia and Cattleya labiata, was offered. In 1878, Veitch introduced another hybrid to the market under the name Laeliocattleya Dominiana, the parents being Cattleya dowiana and Laelia purpurata.

John Dominy

In our shop you can get the cross with parents of the same name as the hybrid from 1859, but blue varieties (C. intermedia 'coerulea' x Cattleya maxima 'coerulea') were chosen, and so far all the plants have flowered beautifully in blue.
