Wooden baskets are a very decorative planter for orchids. The root area of the plants is well ventilated. The harder the wood, the longer its durability. Orchids such as Aerides, Ascocenda, Vanda, Rhychnostylis and their numerous hybrids can be kept practically substrate-free in the wooden baskets without substrate or with a few coarse pieces of bark.
Orchids such as Stanhopea, Gongora, Acineta, Dracula and many others have pendulous or downward-growing panicles and should, since they require more water, be kept in the basket with substrate. Our Orchi-Mix (if necessary, please put a grid in the ground) or Sphagnum are suitable for this.
Brassavola, Bulbophyllum, Cattleya, Coelogyne and many Dendrobium also love wooden baskets because of. good ventilation, and when grown look very attractive even when they are not in bloom.
