Habitat: | terrestrial, in valley bottoms in moist to ever-humid lowland forests on deeply leaf litter-covered red sandstone loam soils in heavy shade, at altitudes of 150-300m. |
Notes: | The metallic purple leaves of the seedlings and young plants of Alocasia infernalis are remarkable, while the glossy, deep black purple of the leaves of the adult plants, combined with the dwarf habit, is unmatched by any other species. |
