Origin: Colombia
Habitat:

Anthurium decipiens has been found growing mostly terrestrially in the western Andes of the Colombian Cordillera at Cerro Tatamo at 1300 - 2000m elevation.

Notes:

Anthurium decipiens was for many years confused with Anthurium salgarense, only Alistair Hay & Marco Cedeño Fonseca investigated this species further. During the 12th International Aroid Conference in Cali, Colombia, they visited the garden of Eduardo Calderón in Valle del Cauca, Colombia, where this plant was in bloom. Inspired by this, they examined it and found significant differences with Anthurium salgarense, which had been described a few years earlier. Subsequently, this species was described as Anthurium decipiens.
Anthurium decipiens is one of the most striking Anthurium, from the size it seems that the leaves can grow up to 2m in height, the spadix can easily reach over 1m in length. Seed pods turn black after pollination, at maturity they become bright orange from the base.
Adult leaves are leathery, dark green and highly glossy, leaf veins may turn deep wine red, petioles are often bicolored, brownish purple and light green coarsely mottled.
