Etymology:

longiloba: longus = long, lobus = lobe (leaf)

Trade name: Elephant Ear Plant
Propagation: meristem
Origin: mainland Southeastasia
Habitat:

terrestrial, widespread in rainforest and understory, in swampy areas and well-drained slopes, occasionally on rocks at elevations of 0-500 m

Notes:

Alocasia longiloba is widely distributed in Southeast Asia. The plants are rich in calcium oxalate (do not consume), which protects them from animal predation. Many of the synonyms described are currently in process, and are traded as distinct species or varieties: e.g. Alocasia argyrea, Alocasia korthalsii, Alocasia lowii and Alocasia watsoniana. Alocasia longiloba is more robust than related species and rarely grows taller than 90cm.
The leaf veins turn dark purple with age, hence the clone name: "Purple Prince"
