Etymology:

gymnopus = naked column foot
Leon (1946) gave this plant the common name "bejuco lombricero de cana" ("worm vine of Sabal"). The name is not derived from the snake-like growth form, but from its medicinal use in the treatment of intestinal parasites. The plant is said to have a worm-killing effect.
(It is an ornamental plant that is not suitable for consumption).

Climbing or hemiiphytic at sea level along Cuba's southern coasts, rarely on the north coast in warm locations, little humidity during the day.
