Etymology:

it is a new, not described species. No epithet has been assigned yet. The genus name Marcgravia is derived from the German naturalist Georg Marggraf (1610-1644).

hemiepiphytic in primary tropical moist lowland forests on humic soils, at altitudes of 100-500m

Notes:

The genus Marcgravia is native to Central and northern South America. The leaves are mostly patterned and small. The plants grow climbing in nature, they belong to the so-called "roof tile plants" because of the closely overlapping leaves.
Besides the dark red colored leaves with their velvety surface, deep wine red leaf underside is a real eye-catcher.
