Habitat:

lithophytic or terrestrial on rocks, river banks or granite slopes in moist to wet mountain forests at altitudes of 1000-1500m. The roots grow in dripping, oxygen-rich, fresh rainwater, the roots are easily covered by mosses.
This local variant of Phragmipedium besseae is found in the Guarumales district in eastern Ecuador in the Pacific Andes.

Notes:

Finding Phragmipedium besseae was a sensation. A red lady's slipper! Today, many locations are known and each local variety differs slightly from the other. Sometimes the locations are several 100km apart and the flowers are very different. In principle, one experiences evolution "live".
