Etymology:

squamipetiolatum: squamis = scaly, petiolatus = petiolate, , a reference to the hairy/scaled stem.

Origin: Panama, Colombia, Ecuador
Habitat:

hemiepiphytic climbing up trees, with round, almost leathery leaves, at altitudes from sea level to 1500m, in warm humid tropical forest along the Pacific Andes.

Notes:

The type plant was found by Tom Croat in June 1994 at about 800m altitude. Philodendron squamipetiolatum has short internodes and short petioles, so that the leaves are horizontal in nature.
