Name: | Philodendron squamicaule 'Blushing', Croat & Grayum 1997 |
Synonyms: | not known |
Etymology: | squamicaule: squamis = scaly, caulis = stem, a reference to densely hairy/scaled stem |
Propagation: | division |
Origin: | Nicaragua, Costa Rica, Panama, Columbia, Ecuador |
Habitat: | hemiepiphytic along the Pacific Andes at altitudes of 100-1400m, in sparse warm humid tropical forest and wet rainforest. In Central America also along the Atlantic coast. |
Notes: | Philodendron squamicaule has evenly veined leaves on short petioles. Thus, in the natural habitat, the leaves are mostly horizontal on the plant, so that the densely hairy (scaled) reddish petioles and the red leaf undersides in the young leaf stage with the clearly set off leaf veins present themselves very attractively. |
