Etymology: | gribianum = The species is named in honor of James Grib, a Volunteer Research Assistant who has helped Tom Croat to describe over a hundred new species. Without his able assistance much of this work of discovery would remain unfinished. |

Habitat: | hemiepiphytic climbing plant in humid cloud forests at altitudes from 2000 - 3000m near Papallacta in the Napo District. |
Notes: | Philodendron gribianum was already discovered in 1980 by Tom Croat, but it took until 2013 until the final description was published. The species is characterized by slightly bicolored, broad, shiny leaves with numerous basal veins. |
