Notes:

On July 6, 1801, Humboldt and Bonpland arrived in Bogota, Colombia. There they met José Mutis, probably the most important botanist in South America. Mutis' extensive botanical collection and magnificent library, as well as his botanical books and sketches (and drawings), reinforced Humboldt's urge to research plants more intensively on this trip. As a direct result of this acquaintance, Humboldt and Bonpland penetrated deep into the Andes, which until then had hardly been explored.
One of the countless plants discovered on this trip was Anthurium pedatum. Unfortunately, the exact location where it was found has not been recorded, and is therefore unknown.
Anthurium pedatum has very long petioles, up to 60cm long, which arise closely together at the base. This gives the plant a less typical, but a very elegant and majestic appearance for this genus.
