Habitat: | widespread in northern, tropical warm-humid South America and Trinidad, mostly epiphytic climbing up to 6m high, but also climbing along roadsides, at altitudes from 0-2000m |
Notes: | The species grows as a thick-stemmed epiphyte, but also occurs as a terrestrial vine and can be found along roadsides. Philodendron deflexum is often found close to ant nests. In woodland, the smooth, long drooping roots are a conspicuous feature of the species. In young plants, the swollen base of the petioles is unusually soft, and the petioles of mature plants are also moderately spongy. |
