Notes:

This species is one of many taxonomic problems in naming that have not yet been fully resolved. This species was discovered many years ago and offered as Philodendron verrucosum 'No.5.' by Ecuagenera because of its similarity to Philodendron verrucosum.
Because of its beautiful red coloration, it quickly became popular with collectors in the U.S., and was traded as Philodendron Choco Red based on the leaf coloration and region of origin.
New research, which was made possible after long culture of the plants and diagnosis of the floral structure, has led to Philodendron verrucosum 'No. 5' being treated as a distinct species now, and it is currently described as Philodendron rubrijuvenilum (possibly also rubrojuvenilum) (as of Jun. 2022).

The red colouring on the underside of the leaves is clearly visible on slightly older plants when the plants are cultivated in a brighter place. When cultivated in the shade, the underside of the leaves remains green - light green.
