Etymology: | sodiroi = Luis Sodiro was a Jesuit priest and a field botanist who described a large number of species from the area around Quito, Ecuador, in the early 20th century. He was perhaps the first to collect in this region, and he described at least 38 species from Esmeraldas, a region in Ecuador. |

Notes: | Philodendron sodiroi is a botanically obscure species. Some sources name Nicholas Edward Brown (1849 - 1934, English botanist and taxonomist) as the author, 8 April 1948, 14 years after Brown's death the species is said to have been published, no source is given. In the International Plant Names Index the name is given as hort:, that is, a horticultural variety ( Gard. Chron. n.s., 19: 510 (1883). |
